NRMA Blue will safeguard our future
Tim Trumper says
NRMA Blue is a
crucial part of
THE NRMA’S new Member
benefits program, NRMA Blue,
represents a new chapter in its
storied history and will play an
important role in how we help our
Members in the future.
As a mutual, the NRMA is
uniquely placed to find innovative
ways to give back to our Members
through services and savings.
Throughout its 98-year history,
the NRMA has applied this ethos to
the community as well.
Today, the NRMA runs a raft of
programs designed to save lives,
boost communities and empower
Australians. Linking our Members
to these services will be an
essential part of NRMA Blue, which
will be available from May 14.
I had the privilege of seeing first-
hand the remarkable work our
education team does in providing
free road safety programs to
school children of all ages. Our
refugee and Indigenous learner
driver programs, run in conjunction
with our Safer Driving network, are
opening up opportunities in
education and employment for
some of our most disadvantaged
groups. And our work as advocates
– the foundation for the NRMA’s
creation in 1920 – continues to
deliver beneficial policy outcomes.
We’re also investing in the future.
There’s a mobility revolution
underway and it’ll have a profound
effect on how we get around.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are going to
be a big part of that future and it’s
not the NRMA way to sit back and
watch. We want to help ease our
Members into their collective
futures. That’s why we’re leading
the way as a voice for change and
building Australia’s largest electric
vehicle charging network.
I recently travelled to Canberra
and joined our partners at the
Electric Vehicle Council for
the launch of a report into the
economic benefits Australia could
derive from an EV future. The
report showed growth in EVs could
contribute around $3 billion to
Australia’s GDP and create more
than 13,000 jobs. It also highlighted
the environmental benefits of EVs,
significantly reducing carbon
dioxide emissions by 2030 and
lowering Australia’s dependence on
imported oil by 16 million barrels a
year over the same timeframe.
Both the EV charging network
and NRMA Blue enable us to give
back more to our loyal Members,
and help safeguard the NRMA’s
future by becoming relevant every
day. In doing so we can also give
back more to the wider community.
The Board and I are proud to
present NRMA Blue to our Members
and we encourage all of you to
make the most of its benefits.
As part of the NRMA’s commitment to Members, we conduct
surveys to find out what issues matter most to you. One issue
resonates more than most – the cost of living – in particular,
the financial pressure of car ownership on the family budget.
The NRMA has responded to this with our most exciting
Member service offerings in years. From May 14, NRMA Blue
will offer a breadth of benefits and savings to our Members in
one of Australia’s most valuable membership programs.
The partnership we’ve announced with Caltex – the only
major Australian-owned fuel company – will see Members who
fill up at selected Caltex service stations receive five cents
per litre off Vortex premium fuels and three cents per litre
off regular fuels. This offer is only available through the
my nrma app and there are easy-to-follow instructions for
downloading the app on page 36.
However, we know not all Members will have compatible
smartphones, so we’ve ensured that almost every other
saving is redeemable by showing your NRMA Membership
card or pre-purchasing online.
These special offers are designed to keep you moving. We
now expect our Members to save several hundred dollars a
year through NRMA Blue. There are discounts of up to 25 per
cent off NRMA Insurance, a free night’s accommodation at
NRMA holiday parks, Travelodge and other partner hotels,
plus a host of savings for entertainment and tourist locations.
What I particularly like about NRMA Blue is that the offers
now available are easily accessible, regardless of where you
live, with many of our partners spread across Australia.
For 98 years, Members have relied on the NRMA if
something went wrong. Now, we are so much more, and while
we’ll always be there for you on the side of the road, the value
of your Membership can be maximised every day as we find
new and exciting ways to keep you moving.
