past year and our
Members will reap

Ask any Sydneysider and they’ll tell you the place is a ghost
town between Christmas and New Year. The lead-up, however,
is one of the busiest times for our transport corridors, with
many of us finishing up work or school, attending Christmas
parties, and doing last-minute shopping.
Whether you’re heading out of Sydney or staying home, it’s
important to drive carefully and look out for each other. The
holidays are about spending time with family and friends, so
let’s make sure everyone gets home to their loved ones safely.
The break is a great time to take advantage of the offers
available through NRMA Blue. Using the my nrma app, you can
access discounts from a range of partners including Caltex,
Taronga Zoo, Luna Park and Event Cinemas. Members receive
a 10 per cent discount on My Fast Ferry rides, which means
families travelling to and from Darling Harbour, Circular Quay,
Manly, Taronga Zoo, Watsons Bay and Rose Bay can put some
extra dollars towards their outing on our beautiful harbour.
For families travelling outside Sydney, it’s important to
make sure your vehicle has been serviced. We have car
servicing centres in Artarmon, Brookvale, Hornsby,
Marrickville, Gladesville and a new location in Narrabeen.
You can also use the my nrma app to find the cheapest fuel
on your journey. Prices continue to be high, but that doesn’t
mean you can’t find a good deal. I recently used the app to
check prices in Drummoyne and found one service station
selling at 160.4 cents a litre while another just 1km down the
road was 146.9 cents. It certainly pays to shop around.
If you’re yet to plan a family holiday, consider a road trip to
regional areas affected by the drought. A road trip is a great
way to explore our country, support regional communities
and recharge with family and friends.

different here at the NRMA. The
2018 AGM is my first as Chair and
on every measure it has been a
fantastic year for our mutual.
In our 98th year of operation,
our financial position is strong,
our reputation is ranked amongst
the highest in Australia, and our
service to our Members goes
from strength to strength. These
aren’t generic statements but
measurable outcomes that
compare the NRMA to other
Australian businesses. In fact, we
were voted the nation’s second
most trusted brand in 2018.
Our fantastic patrols responded
to 1.6 million calls for help last
year and rescued almost 2,100
children and over 1,500 pets
locked in cars. It’s not hard to
see why our Members value this
service so highly.
Our financial position for the
year is strong, with profit before
tax of $129 million (up 16 per cent
on FY17) and net assets now over
$1 billion (up 11 per cent). As a
mutual, our operating model is
different to publicly listed
companies. We don’t make profit
for profit’s sake.
Our funds are reinvested back
into services that deliver value for
you and ensure you get the
maximum benefit from your
Membership. We’ve grown the
number of our car servicing
centres to 23, with a new location
in Narrabeen. We’re now also
operator of holiday parks and are
pleased that Members and the
community have chosen to spend
their family holidays with the
NRMA. Over 1.7 million nights have
been booked and enjoyed at our
parks and resorts.
